Life took a delightful turn for me when I decided to retire from a fulfilling 30-year career in healthcare and dive headfirst into the world of artistry. It all started a few years back when I found myself with some extra time on my hands, and a spark ignited within me.
The catalyst? A rustic mountain masterpiece that caught my eye at a local market. I couldn't help but wonder, could I create something equally as beautiful? With a little help from countless YouTube videos and some serious scavenging for wood, I decided to give it a go. Sure, my first attempts were a tad rough around the edges, but with each whir of the power tools, my skills grew, and so did my art. There's something truly magical about turning scraps of wood destined for the landfill into something extraordinary. Then came a delightful twist in my artistic journey—a new deck and a heap of offcuts waiting to be discarded. In a moment of inspiration, I asked myself, "What if I could work some magic with this good wood?" And thus, the concept of Outdoor Art was born. These whimsical mountain creations now grace not only the outdoor spaces of my own home but also those of my dear friends and neighbours, spreading joy and charm with every passing year. But as any artist knows, growth is inevitable. So, I ventured into the world of acrylic painting on canvas, blending my newfound skills seamlessly into my wood mountain landscapes. Little did I know, there's a treasure trove of wood scraps waiting to be discovered—leftovers from new home constructions and off cuts at big box stores during construction season. Before I knew it, my garage was bursting at the seams with wood, leaving no room for my car! But oh, what joy it brought! Staining each piece of wood and piecing them together like a puzzle, crafting those rustic mountain ranges felt like pure magic. With time, the designs evolved, giving rise to what would become the beloved Iconic Mountain Peak collection. And oh, the Three Sisters in Canmore—they've become the stars of many a commissioned piece, their majestic beauty captured in wood and stain. And let's not forget the geometric pieces—those have quickly become fan favourites, adding a touch of modern flair to any space. It's amazing how a few angles and lines can evoke such wonder and delight! So here's to the journey of creation, fueled by imagination and fueled by the warmth of wood.
